Gondola (#14)

No trip to Venice is complete without a gondola ride!

The gondola’s sleek, asymmetrical design allows just one gondolier to navigate the narrow Venetian canals using a single oar. How is this possible?

The gondola is fashioned in such a way that the left side of the gondola is longer than the right side. This asymmetry resists the tendency for the gondola to veer left, when the forward stroke is applied.

Cool, huh!
